The Boston Camerata and Music Director Joel Cohen Celebrate “La Semaine de la Francophonie” with the US Première of The Night’s Tale: A Tournament of Love, Conceived and Directed by The Camerata’s Own Anne Azéma

Performed by an International French-American Cast!

Le Tournoi (Tournament) de Chauvency written circa 1285 by the French poet Jacques Bretel, is a narration of a courtly celebration in the Lorraine region of France. The songs, dances, and games described in Bretel’s text, form the inspiration for this new, innovative production.

Our performance will capture a day’s festivities. Daylight is the domain of men, who joust and fight in ritual encounters; when night falls, women converse in music and dance, far from the masculine violence of the daytime. Mutual desire aroused during the day culminates in the evening’s rites --aggressive and courtly, passionate and playful. Join us for these North American première performances!
